A ug 2 00 4 LIMITS OF ( CERTAIN ) CAT ( 0 ) GROUPS , II : THE HOPF PROPERTY AND THE SHORTENING ARGUMENT

چکیده

This is the second in a series of papers about torsionfree groups which act properly and cocompactly on a CAT(0) metric space with isolated flats and relatively thin triangles. Our approach is to adapt the methods of Sela and others for wordhyperbolic groups to this context of non-positive curvature. The main result in this paper is that (under certain technical hypotheses) such a group as above is Hopfian. This (mostly) answers a question of Sela.

Limits of (certain) Cat(0) Groups, Ii: the Hopf Property and the Shortening Argument

We describe a locally trivial quantum principal U (1)-bundle over the quantum space S 2 pq which is a noncommutative analogue of the usual Hopf bundle. We also provide results concerning the structure of its total space algebra (irreducible *-representations and topological K-groups) and its Galois aspects (Galois property, existence of a strong connection, non-cleftness).

O ct 2 00 7 GROUPS WITH COMPACT OPEN SUBGROUPS AND MULTIPLIER HOPF ∗ - ALGEBRAS MAGNUS

For a locally compact group G we look at the group algebras C 0 (G) and C * r (G), and we let f ∈ C 0 (G) act on L 2 (G) by the multiplication operator M (f). We show among other things that the following properties are equivalent: 1. G has a compact open subgroup. 2. One of the C *-algebras has a dense multiplier Hopf *-subalg-ebra (which turns out to be unique). 3. There are non-zero elements...

Certain operator algebras A on a Hilbert space have the property that every densely defined linear transformation commuting with A is closable. Such algebras are said to have the closability property. They are important in the study of the transitive algebra problem. More precisely, if A is a two-transitive algebra with the closability property, then A is dense in the algebra of all bounded ope...

Let Γ denote a Q-polynomial distance-regular graph with diameter D ≥ 4. Assume that the intersection numbers of Γ satisfy ai = 0 for 0 ≤ i ≤ D − 1 and aD 6= 0. We show that Γ is a polygon, a folded cube, or an Odd graph.
